Evaluating the developments regarding the Cyprus problem in the television program he participated in, UBP FMC Member Dr. Ahmet Savaşan, He pointed out that the statements made by the Greek Foreign Minister in Ankara show that the Greek-Greek side's intransigence continues and that this attitude will condemn the meeting to be held in Geneva on April 27-28 to failure.

Pointing out that the uncompromising attitude of the Greek-Greek side has increased in recent weeks and this attitude was shown to the whole world in the presence of the press members during the visit of Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias to Ankara, National Unity Party Central Executive Board Member Dr. Ahmet Savaşan,He underlined that if this attitude continues at the conference to be held in Geneva on April 27-28, it will lead to the failure to produce any positive decision to start negotiations or even to continue the search for common ground.

“THE TURKISH CYPRIOT PEOPLE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN CONCILIATORY...”

Stating that the Cyprus problem has been stuck in the web of the Greek Cypriot side's intransigence for years Ahmet Savaşan, “The Turkish Cypriot people have always been in a compromising attitude towards solving the Cyprus problem and reaching a sustainable agreement, even though they do not fully adopt the Greek Cypriot position. Our past Presidents have also displayed the same attitude on this issue.”.

“THE MENTALITY OF THE GREEK-GREEK SIDE PREVENTS AN AGREEMENT...”

Reminding that the Turkish Cypriot people said yes to the Annan Plan and the Greeks said no Ahmet Savaşan “Although then President Talat sought a solution by showing flexibility on many issues even after the referendum, President Eroğlu continued this search, and finally President Akıncı tried to compromise with the Greek side at the expense of contradicting the majority of the society and Turkey, these attempts could not result in an agreement. The reason for this is the mentality of the Greek-Greek side. It is the Greek-Greek side that torpedoed these searches. Now they are trying to put us in the same situation again. This is really unfair and unacceptable,” he said.

“THE CONFERENCE ENDED BEFORE IT STARTED...”

Noting that it was Turkey that proposed the informal Cyprus Conference to be held in Geneva on April 27-29 and that the function of this conference is to explore whether there is common ground to solve the Cyprus problem Ahmet Savaşan, “Greece and the Greek Cypriot side are doing whatever it takes to make this conference fail. The ungracious and aggressive attitude of Greek Foreign Minister Dendias in Ankara is the latest example of this and is a declaration that the conference is over before it starts.”.

“SERAVUŞOGLU'S VISIT SHOWS OUR UNITY WITH TURKEY...“

Emphasizing that Turkey and the TRNC are fighting together against the Greek-Greek activities that aim to make Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean Greek as a whole, UBP FMK Member Dr. Savaşan pointed out that the visit of Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Çavuşoğlu to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus immediately after his meeting with Dendias and the clash in front of the press is an important visit showing our unity and solidarity with Turkey.

“A FAIR SOLUTION CAN ONLY BE FOUND IF THE TURKISH SIDE IS STRONG...”

“The Greek and Greek sides think we are weak. But we are not weak. As long as we can maintain our unity and solidarity.” Ahmet Savaşan, “Çavuoğlu's visit is not only an indication that we will go to the summit on April 27-29 in full unity and solidarity with Turkey, but also a sign that the Greek-Greek side will not be able to achieve its ambitions. If the United Nations wants to increase security and peace in the region, it must act fairly and protect the rights and interests of the parties. Reconciliation can only be achieved in this way. Considering what has happened so far, it is obvious that the UN has not acted fairly. Therefore, this can only be possible if the Turkish side is strong. Only if the Turkish side is strong can a fair solution to the Cyprus problem be found. If we are weak, we can lose all our rights. The attitude of the Greek-Greek side shows us this.”.
